Through the Queendom Project, which began in 2000, she works with young women on navigating careers and life in the ways she wished had been available to her. Queendom has taken many forms; event management & promotions, employment recruitment and personal and professional development. Incorporating social media in her latest effort, Shemicia introduced #ladieswholead in 2014. An online platform initiated to enhance and empower the professional and personal development of women across the country, now includes over 1100 women contributors and benefactors. Ladies Who Lead provides topical and candid discussions and action steps; led by women, for women; including wealth management, career advice, work/life balance, personal branding, image and wellness. “I feel like it’s my responsibility,” Bowen, mother of 2, says of the initiative. “I didn’t want to be one of those girls who took the wrong path and stayed there. Just think, this crazy concept of blending Supportive Sisterhood and Leadership, looks more and more like reality – Michelle Obama, Hilary Clinton, Loretta Lynch and then little girls looking up to them. This is what I was destined to do.” Named to Style Weekly 40 under 40 in 2014, Bowen believes the strength and success of the community is greatly attributed to power of women.

Ladies Who Lead programs and activities include #littleladieswholead, a mentoring program in Richmond Public Schools, Community Day at the General Assembly, political engagement, event planning and business development of women owned or led businesses and elected officials.
